Red Cedar Friends Meeting is in
the process of building its own meetinghouse. Since its inception, Red
Cedar Friends has used space at other churches and facilities to host
its weekly meeting for worship. In 2005, Meeting purchased property on
Turner Street in Lansing's Old Town Neighborhood with the intent to
construct a meetinghouse.
The property is located north of Grand
River Avenue adjacent to Goldenrod Music. The city of Lansing
approved a special use permit allowing the building of a meetinghouse
on the property. At present, the meeting is working to determine what
type of building to construct based on our finances and current and
future needs. We are striving to be as inclusive as possible to all
members in this important project. A Building Committee has been formed
to explore the building and design process and subcommittees have been
formed to explore various aspects of the project.
One feature of a future meetinghouse
that is important to members is that it be energy efficient and have as
little negative environmental impact as possible. A subcommittee
has been formed to gather information on this topic and they have
created a Web site to
inform other Friends.
