What Happens at Meeting for Worship?

Friends gather in Meeting for Worship on each First Day (Sunday) to wait in expectant silence for the Spirit to speak deep in the still center of each of our beings.  We trust that messages which come to us individually, even when they seem disparate, are pieces of truth. Therefore, when led to do so, each worshiper shares his or her Light with the community. Often within the silence Friends find healing, truth, peace, love, kindness, wisdom, guidance, nurturing and much more.

When you attend meeting for worship please plan to arrive promptly (if possible) and enter in silence. We ask that you turn off all cell phones, pagers, etc. to avoid unnecessary disruptions.

Can children attend meeting?

Yes. Many families attend meeting and our members are understanding of the unavoidable commotion that accompanies small children. First Day (Sunday) School is provided for preschool through middle school age children; nursery is provided for younger children. Parents are also welcome to keep their children with them during meeting. Nursing infants, for example, often stay with their mothers during worship. Our community and our faith are broadened when children join us.

What are the people of Red Cedar Friends Meeting like?

It is the intention of Red Cedar Friends to be fully inclusive. We welcome everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, familial status, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, sex, religion, or disability. We are an open and affirming Meeting.

We appreciate spiritual seekers who seek after truth and are in sympathy with our testimonies. We come from many religious backgrounds and traditions, including Christian, Jewish, Pagan and Buddhist. In our Meeting you will find Christocentric and Universalist Friends, non-theists and people who are not simply one or the other.

Red Cedar Friends Meeting is comprised of people from about 50 households. Our members live in Ingham, Eaton, Shiawassee, and Clinton counties. Visitors are welcome.
